The Department of Agriculture in Taiwan last week announced that a 37 million USD aquarium fish R&D and export center will be built by 2011 with hopes of surpassing Singapore as the largest aquarium fish exporter in Asia. The facility will be located in Pingtung Agricultural Biotechnology Park and the project 'will provide an integrated model for the production and marketing of aquarium fish for export.' Hard to say what this will mean for us in the USA, but Taiwan's Hi-Tec Aquaculture Co. LTD carries an assortment of Angelfish shown below. More pics inside.

Other interesting aquarium products from Taiwan include I.Q. Star Trade Co. LTD's 'Lucky Star Fish.' This 'lucky' starfish appears to be similar to an asterina star. Perhaps next time you have a plague of them you can stick them in cute vases with some algae and make a little money from your friends. :)

If we are really lucky, perhaps we will be able to get hold of some of Taiwan's Earthquake Fish. Local superstition is that earthquake fish 'foretell earthquakes.' You might need a slightly larger aquarium for these wonders.
