Default Natural and unnatural Disasters

I know that a lot of things happen to a lot of people. This is just one example of something that is usually considered a natural disaster, but in this case the devestation to this and 1000s of other structures in the San Diego area was caused by one careless human. >

These are some pics of my brothers house after the fire last year. There is a link to some more pictures if you want to see some of the weird things that fires do.

Thankfully my brother, his wife, his child and all of the warm blooded pets are fine. The reef tank he had did not fair to well. As a matter of fact we couldn't find anything left of it, or the other FW tanks he had.

His koi pond survived unscathed and the fish are still there to date. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Here is a link to more wierder pics of things that happened in this fire.

They are working on it. So many properties burned that the insurance companies are losing their minds. FEMA came in and couldn't keep up with the amount of help that was requested of them.

The insurance company is settling, but in the mean time they had another small house on the property that was bringing in rent income, as a nice side income, burned, no more income from that. Fortunately, my brother is a veterinarian specializing in small animal surgery. He's like the big cheese in San Diego.

It is taking forever!!!
Thanks for the sympathy... [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Actually, at the time my brother was not, but his nearest neighbor was all over the TV. My brother got out just as the fire was 50yds away from his house.Iit was coming down the hill right over a ravine behind the house. His neighbor helped him load up the 2 dogs, 3 cats, 3 birds, and whatever else he could throw in the car.

The neighbor left about 15 minutes later and was literally being chased by a, and I kid you not, 30-50 foot wall of flames as raced out of the area they were in. He was driving 45 mph on dark back country roads and the fire was catching up to his car. Two other neighbors didn't make it, they died. One other stayed, and with his little garden hose, managed to save his house. The fire just went around him.

I know you have seen tornado destruction. It is so weird that total destruction can happen to two houses, and one in between them isn't even touched.

Did you check the pics I linked to? The plastic patio chair wasn't even scorched and yet there wasn't anything left around it.

I think Peter, my brother, was interviewed by TV about FEMA's invovement or lack there of, and how the California Sherriff's department totally booted the emergency procedures.

That particular fire was started by a hunter that thought he was lost, so he decided to light a signal fire. The guy was a five minute walk from a two lane highway. >

But now I am at peace on [glow=red,2,300]3Reef[/glow].

WOW DX7, he was lucky. And being a Florida Resident, we are not with out our own devistation as well. By looking at my map pin you see I live at the epi center of where Hurricane Andrew Blew the city of Homestead AWAY. I work for Bellsouth and had to put together the aftermath and deal with a lot of people who were just in a daze for months. you can call up on the internet many pics from that horror. My wife is still haunted by the time she spent huddled in a closet as the world crumbled around her, and everything that she owned was destroyed. Not a Happy, Happy story, but at least we are alive and well now. Sorry to hear of the destruction. Happy to hear they are all right. I'm proof that you can rebuild anything inanimate.
