| I owe geekdafied an apology... OK I feel like a jerk and this has been eating at me for the past couple weeks.
Geek's whole "old/newb" thread sparked an entire debate and I was on the front lines of the opposition. Not only that but I got carried away and said some things that I didn't necessarily mean.
So, you should all know that this is very hard for me to do but I have done it before (some of you might remember my admission during the last video contest), but I do admit I was pretty forceful in my opinion. I don't think geek was being arrogant and the truth be told is that I *DO* do some research of my own before asking questions on here and I sort of agree that a little research of your own could save you some headache, as well as us veterans (I consider 5+ years like myself pretty veteran/experienced). Of course there are those unique situations and no one should be discouraged from presenting them at all, which was his point to begin with.
A prime example is of my recent Lionfish kicking the bucket. I didn't know if that thing would poison my tank or not so I googled it. It turns out my answer was the same as I got from my fellow 3reefers.
Anyways I just wanted to apologize for being such an antagonist and I do thank geek for being the better man and offering to help me with my photography later on (side note: I didn't care about getting the right settings or whatever for that camera - but again I do appreciate the gesture).
Cheers to all the 3reefers who make this website great! _________ 125 Gal Reef. | I've walked down that/this road a couple of times myself, but when your passionate about something, you tend to get carried away with your feelings. I've talked to Geek many times, on the forum and off and I dont think hes a bad guy. Although he can sound arrogant at times or come off a little "abrasive". I understand his point about researching for one self, but not everyone has that "detective" quality that he possess. The bottom line here is that we are all humans and are not perfect, nor will we ever be. We all make mistakes, but it takes a better/bigger person to stand up and say, " hey, I was wrong" esp. in public. Kudos for having the cojones to do so. | I did not see any of the threads but it is always nice to see when somebody stands up and says...hey I was wrong! It means a lot.
Emotions often times get involved in situations like these, and I learned from experience also people tend to get defensive, rather than just explaining what really happened. I know I did that recently and that doesnt really solve anything. I apolized and others apoligized and it did mean a lot. Also just stepping back from the situation for a bit helped see it clearer. And when it doesnt, there is always somebody on here that will stand up and say...hey what are you thinking!
That is what I like about this site because I have been on other sites where you dont get this apology and almost every thread has some type of fight or blame placed in it. This site is a very friendly site and I do think that overall most of us do like each other on here, which is not always the case other places. You will get the occasional poster who is not a "regular" who comes on and just seems to try to start something, but overall this is a pretty fun site. Plus it is a good site for beginners...even my mom has been coming on and getting info. She has not logged in yet but has been researching on here more.
Ok enough sappy stuff |

| Hi everyone, I will add that when we read a post, we can not see the person talking (writing) so we can not see their inflections (facial expressions) and remember, we don't know why a person is posting what they are posting. Someone may firmly believe a misconception as fact and so they are by no means a "bad" person for their view. A forum is a place for ideas, thoughts, facts and sharing experiences. Brandon, you have grown in stature and I commend you for it.

| I appreciate the apology Brandon! You didnt have to do this publicly as I wasnt offended by your actions in the thread in question. If I was, I wouldnt have tried to help you with your/your boyfriends camera settings. I think what happened was you misunderstood a few things I wrote as you mentioned in your apology. As they say..."its all good in da hood!".

Thank you everyone for the karma, and it will be returned right back at'cha (here in a minute). I agree that this website is something special in that of course there will be disagreements but in the end everyone agrees that we're all here to help and will do it gladly. We all want to be successful in our aquatic endeavors, and for those of us who already are, we want to pass on our knowledge to those of you who seek it graciously.
So, how 'bout dem LED's? |
