| Heading to Atlanta Hey all.
I just got the news that i will be going on a 3 day business trip to Atlanta in February . I was wondering if any of you that are from Atlanta or near it could give me some info. I will be staying at the omni hotel in the CNN center... Even though my schedule will be pretty loaded i would like to know if there is anything worth seeing from a walking distance of the hotel since i will not have access to a car. Plus some kind of mall or some shops to bring the kids back some souvenirs. My days are going to be prety full but my evenings will be at the hotel with my 2 bosses so i rather go walking around somewhere and seeing stuff.
So any hints or info would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

| Well, the worlds largest Aquarium just opened there. http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/
The Coke museum is pretty cool as is a place called "The Underground" which is a mall built inside abandoned subway tracks. http://www.woccatlanta.com/ http://www.underground-atlanta.com/index.html
It's been a few years since I've been there so don't take my word on this. However, if I recall correctly, they were all very close together.
Also, if I recall correctly, MARTA has a subway station at CNN center. |

| Definitly do the aquarium. It is the largest in the world...they even have two whale sharks. Avoid the zoo, it is out dated. They have pandas, which is cool, but thats about it. If you like to hit the bars, catch a cab up to buckhead. It is not far from downtown. You may also want to hit Virginia Highlands. Great bars in that area. An awesome blues bar called Blind Willies, and also a great Irish Pub - Limerick Junction - they actually shipped the bar in from Ireland. Both places have live music on weekend nights. Atlanta is a great, young city. You should have no problems keeping busy!
One thing about ATL in February is the weather...it could be 80 and sunny or 40 and raining...you never can tell. We are far enough south to have mild winters, BUT far enough north to still get cold. One New Years Eve I was out in shorts and a t-shirt, by new years day it was down in the 40's. So just be prepared. |
