| Flood of 2008 pics Well all of us around Columbus have been talking about the flood alot so I thought I would post some pics. We've been working on my Grandma's house every chance we get, she had 4 foot of water in her home. She has lived there over 45 years and this is the first water problem. That is what is so devastating, so many people that got hit live in a 500 year floodplain, you can only buy flood insurance if you live in a 100 year floodplain. We had 10+ inches of rain in a matter of hours, and a dam just to the north of us was breached, causing a lot more problems. The hospital is still not open, it will be another 3 months for the ER and 6+ months for the entire hospital to be going. There was over $250 million in damage in Columbus alone (early estimates), a town of a little over 40,000 people. Here are some pics, still can't do it justice.
My grandma's house the day after the flood, she had around 4 feet of water in her house:
A friend's neighborhood, the entire neighborhood "wasn't in a flood zone"
My grandma's house inside the day after:
A houseboat that we always laughed about that was sitting on cinderblocks that floated across the street and nailed his neighbor's garage:
A pile of my Grandma's house:
A city truck and skidsteer clean up people's ruined belongings, now a familiar sight in Columbus: _________ 55 gallon slowly growing reef aquarium, 85 lbs. live rock, 2 1/2" sandbed, 1 False Percula Clown, 1 Sixline Wrasse, Tetratec PF500 filter, 2 110 watt URI Super Actinic VHO actinics, 2 250 watt metal halides with Reef Optix 2 reflectors powered by Blue Wave 3 ballast, born 1/3/08 My Tank Thread My Tank Video |

| Some more pics.
Eastbrook shopping center... a pretty big strip mall with about 20 tenants, all ruined, you can see the water line in this pic. Once again, water never flooding this shopping center before.
Some of these houses were completely under water at some point:
Some earlier pics of my Granma's mid-teardown. I will post more current pics next time I go over, it is all bare studs now.
Another pic of my Grandma's inside:
My grandma doesn't have any money, so hopefully FEMA will pull through. They seem to be doing a pretty good job so far, but we will have to wait & hope! |

| Makes me feel selfish, sitting here complaining about 50 degree temps until last week .
Hope you were not effected and hope the best for those who were. The weather just keeps getting weirder every year |

| Dude, that does suck. My inlaw's house was flooded back in 1989 here in GA. They had to tear it all out and start over, but my father in law, being the cheap a$$ that he is, left the walls and sub floor. It hasn't been right since, glad to see y'all are doing it right! _________ Got Questions? Need Answers? R.I.P. Big Blue 12/02-10/22//07

| Got some good news! My Grandma got a good chunk of money from FEMA, should be enough to redo her entire house!! We weren't sure if she would have enough so we were waiting to do anything else until we knew. That is a huge relief, now if her house would rebuild itself I might get some rest in the next 2 months !!
Here are some more pics:
My Grandma's front door the day after the flood:
Another water line of a house "not in a flood zone"
A NICE newer looking 5th wheel and new truck pushed over by the water:
Cars that had floated to the middle of the street in another neighborhood "not in a flood zone" (kinda a reoccuring theme!)
Water line a good ways from Hawcreek was halfway up the trampoline net, once again "not in a flood zone"
Cars driving through the median on literally the last open road out of town as the flood was hitting. This picture was taken minutes before about 10 cop cars came rolling through and blocked the road, soon after Columbus was literally an island:
I have plenty more pics, I will post some more if people want to see them (or I might just do it anyways! ) |
