Default Donating a reef tank to local school!

Rayman007 and I have decided to donate a reef tank to a local school. We already have some good resources for donations that are willing to be a part of this. We will be providing, setting up, and help with questions/maintenance. We are also trying to come up with a plan including an hour, or two of an introduction to the reef. This will incude various things like the nitrogen cycle, symbiotic relationships etc. I would like any and all suggestions from 3reefers regarding age group of the kids, type of inhabitants that will spark an extra interest, etc. etc. etc. etc.

_________

I take/share a "common sense" approach.

See my tank specs/parameters/inhabitants here.
Individual tank specs all in one thread....

I think thats a good age b/c they're not to young and not to old like HS where it might be "boring" to them.

How long is a semester? I forget, and how long are High Schoolers in each class per day? I really think it would be GREAT for high schoolers. They have access to $$ and they need something to do. If they stay with the tanks like 10 minutes out of each science class to learn and maybe start a journal, they would become obsessed like us. Most kids in middle school are involved in something. Sports/Gymnastic/dance....whatever, by the time they get to high school, most have them have stopped for one reason or another....They could even start a fish club or stay after class and do maintenance or something like that...extra credit)

LMAO, I dont know about the HS's in your area, but the ones here prefer to be shopping, hanging out with bff's and BF's, my space, all the hip places, texting and all the lastest phones. All kids have money, all they have to do is ask mom and dad for it. lol

Oh, and a lagoon type set up would be very intriguing. maybe lots of snails hermits, a brittle star, some zoas and shrooms and maybe a frogspawn. easy stuff, yet colorful and fascinating. if lights are good, anemone and clown would have to go there also

I agree. I'd like to catch them when they would most likely be interested.

You probably would if you lived here. Miami is just like Beverly hills and New York.
