Default Visions of the Sea HD DVD

With new HD DVD player I got received this HD disk as part of promotion. HD Plasma TV not arriving till tomorrow, but could play it on my computer DVD.

My diving days might just be over.

Why spend all the $ and go thru all the bother (except that is part of the fun) to travel to odd places in the world, when I can just travel now from my living room.

The technology of video and photography has now made it possible to experience all the wonder and beauty of diving on a coral reef right from your living room easy chair. The mind-boggling beauty - which the brain cannot comprehend/or "remember" (hence why we keep returning) - is right here! --- For some reason, the phrase, "...Looking into the Eye of God..." always comes to me when diving...(get same feeling when looking down into Grand Canyon) --- the awesome vision shows just how insignificant we really are.

Anyway...here is first dive experience on this HD DVD...

note: pics don't do near justice to the actual resolution on screen. - but will give idea anyway.

Experience ocean life as never before in spectacular High Definition video that brings your home entertainment system to life. Visions of the Sea: Explorations features Dolby? TrueHD audio..."

Very cool I will have to get me a copy. Still won't compare to actually diving though.

Has its advantages...

"cheap"
No travel time
No worrying about gear on plane
No worrying about gear on shore when diving
No worrying about getting run over by other dive boats
No worrying about being next meal for that big dark shape coming at you
No worrying about obnoxious fellow divers
No worrying about sunburn
Privacy
Never too cold/warm
Convenient - anytime
Cool music
Can eat while doing
Can fall asleep while doing
Can do naked
Can put on "pause" to make bathroom trip
Not having to have really, really expensive camera gear
Easy to duplicate trip

Disadvantages

Ummm...being to told to "get off the damn couch and get out and clean the F$%^ing gutters!"...

(note: need to post pic of being in easy chair, wearing bathing suit, mask, snorkle, fins and headphones...)

Not saying I could not, just that I "would not"...

Certainly not something I would want to do on a real reef, at least on those that I dive. (suspect there are people in the world that are crazy enough to do.)

A brush with fire coral against certain parts of the body may not just mean trip to hospital...but maybe even a mental institution.

Not to mention dangling parts of the body might just appear to be too attractive for a possible meal by many of those teethy creatures that reside on a reef.

Ok...now viewed on new HD Plasma TV.

All I can say is "Wowser."

HD DVD has a "repeat" option in menu, (must have known there was someone like me out there - ) --- so can just let play for hours on end. Except when wife/kids at home. They say they are quite tired of it.

I never will be. Am now out on the reefs nearly every day!
