When I last wrote, I was sitting in my basement watching my new tank...........

I spent the next 10 days watching as things calmed down in the tank and things came out of hiding. We then started naming everything. The Hermit crab that showed up earned the name Craby Patty, the giant snail was just Turbo ( man he could get around the tank fast!), our bumble-be snail is named just that, Bumble-beeand my husband named the Peppermint Shrimp Al ( I still don't know why!). I also discovered these 2 weird looking things on a spiny oyster shell. I now know they are a type of zoa. As I said before, I can't believe this stuff survived!
On Oct 31 we aquired the stand we needed and could put the tank in its permanent home in the living room. On one hand, Yea! no more going to the basement! On the other hand, we had to once again drain and move the tank. We took our time placing things in clean buckets for the upstairs haul, but the second move proved tragic. Unfortunately the stress of the move sent Al the Peppermint shrimp into a molt and since the tank parameters still weren't up to snuff, he died. Our first "burial at sea".
Within a few days of moving the tank, we also lost our giant Turbo snail. Now I was eally getting upset. We went to the store and started buying every test kit and additive known to man. We bought a new heater, eventually added an Eheim canister filter and started to learn the wonderful world of saltwater tank chemistry. With every water change things started to get better and we didn't lose any more residents.
Our friend came over and brought us some "stuff" that was over-running his tank, xenia, GSP, and several different kinds of mushrooms. I was so nervous about keeping this stuff alive! I thought, well, here we go with building our reef tank! Luckily everythintg but one piece of xenia survived and I was so happy when the GSP and mushrooms started splitting and multiplying. Next step, fish!
