| Zoanthid sting! Has anyone ever been stung by a patch of zoanthids?
One night I was moving a piece of live rock which is almost covered with green zoo's and grabed the rock with my bare hands and about an our later i started feeling very strange like i was here but not here, hard to explain. I did not feel any sting just a little numb tingleing in the fingers i had grabed the rock with.
I felt confused and sick. I jumped in the shower to try to get rid of the feeling but when i got out of the shower i did not even remember getting in there in the first place. The feeling went away in about an hour but i was about to call 911. Is there a post on dangerous
organisims here and if not i think that it would be a good Idea to post a dangerous criter fourm.
I have been involved in marine aquria since 1985 and had never had anything happen to me like that before. |

| Re: Zoanthid sting! I have had a similar but less traumatic incident from touching a zoo and I could feel a little stinging twinge and then somewhat later a burning on my lips which I had touched and then a feeling of disorientation and slight dizziness.
Probably the only reason I noticed the disorientation is that I have been hospitalized for ammonia poisoning before, which is the same disorienting feeling on a huge scale...to the point where you don't know your own name, where you are, your telephone number or what day it is.
I have read that some people are allergic to the toxins in zooanthids..so do be careful and don't touch your eyes or lips. *
I second the motion on a forum for just that topic. I know there are organizations you can get more info from about plant and animal toxicity. I'll have to do a little research on the web site or emergency telephone numbers. I always had that info with me when I was in the interior landscaping industry because kids eat the wierdest things.
