water temperature

can i use any type of ice packs in my tanks to keep the temperature from getting to high? i can't afford a chiller right now. Is there any other way to keep the temperature down.

It probably will depend a bit on how much water you need to cool down :-)

I use the hard plastic ice packs when needed, but most times I just get some air blowing on the water surface with a fan.

well, it depends.
How big is your tank? a small tank with a lot of lighting is hard to keep cool. What is the current temp of your tank?
and what is the temp in your house?
The best way to keep the temp down is by using fans. But of course you'll never get it lower than room temp.

I don't know HooDoo I was able to keep my tank at 80 all summer with fans while the room temp was well over 90. Plus the MH lights.

If you have a glass top remove it, add a fan to blow onto the surface of the sump or just the top of the water. This will greatly decrease the temp.

water temp is 82 to 84 in a 55 gal salt water tank needs to be 78 or so. room temp is about 80

Yeah, it works well because of the increased evaporation I believe :-)

Hey Jason, when it gets to 90 inside why don't you just turn off the house heating? :-)

Why do I have to use water temp of my Tank in F when the rest of my life is in C

I don' think the number of ice packs matters as long as your not forcing you heater on, because that would just be a waste of a Ice pack.

Sorry I couldn't help myself :-)

I have no idea what 90F feels like either, Celsius is so much easier but I guess the Fahrenheit scale is sometimes used dependant on the importance of doing things differently.
