It probably will depend a bit on how much water you need to cool down :-)
I use the hard plastic ice packs when needed, but most times I just get some air blowing on the water surface with a fan.
John :-)

| Re: water temperature well, it depends.
How big is your tank? a small tank with a lot of lighting is hard to keep cool. What is the current temp of your tank?
and what is the temp in your house?
The best way to keep the temp down is by using fans. But of course you'll never get it lower than room temp.

| Re: water temperature well, then a fan or two should do it.
Jason: that is great
Didn't think that would work. I'll have to add a fan or two for my tank too |

If you have a glass top remove it, add a fan to blow onto the surface of the sump or just the top of the water. *This will greatly decrease the temp.

Yeah, it works well because of the increased evaporation I believe :-)
Hey Jason, when it gets to 90 inside why don't you just turn off the house heating? :-)

What 90 in real temp C anyway?
Why do I have to use water temp of my Tank in F when the rest of my life is in C
I don' think the number of ice packs matters as long as your not forcing you heater on, because that would just be a waste of a Ice pack. |

Jason,
Sorry I couldn't help myself :-)
I have no idea what 90F feels like either, Celsius is so much easier but I guess the Fahrenheit scale is sometimes used dependant on the importance of doing things differently.
Nothing like confusing the issue aye?
