Default Tank was Unplugged - temp dropped to 66

So my girlfriend just called me and said the lights didnt come on. Turns out the reef keeper got unplugged sometime (probably last night) and the temperature had dropped to 68 degrees. She said she plugged it back in and everything is working again.

My assumption is there is nothing i can do but let the tank heat back up. But I was wondering in these type situations is there anything else that should be done? I know sudden temperature changes is not a good thing. So I dont think putting another heater in to bring the temperature up faster is important.

Luckily the protein skimmer and the mechanical filter are on a different socket so they were still running.

I would definitely not add another heater it ill raise the temp fast and will probably do more damage then help. Just let it get back up and running to normal again the slow way. The quick increase would throw your animals for one heck of a roller coaster ride.

By the looks of your sig./inhabitants you should be fine. The temp. wouldn't have dropped as rapidly as you might think. Although, it's not good and something may not make it you'll probably be fine.

This just happened to a guy I know and member of the reef club I joined (different circumstances, same result). After he realized the tank was at 68 or so just like yours he got it fixed and let the tank slowly raise back up. Fast forward a month or so to now and as far as I last heard he hadn't lost a thing. Hopefully you'll be just as well.

My tank has gone down as low as 58 in the past, (4 days with no power - pre me buying a generator for the house) and it came back up with only losses of a few members of the cleanup crew just let it come back up normally and everything should be good

68,although not a preferable temp., is really not that bad...As been stated in a previous post, increase the temp slowly as temperature also effects the SG and salinity in your tank and raising your temp quickly will do more harm then good...
