Rinsed Sand In Tap Water. Bad thing?

I used about 200gals of tap to rinse my sand.
It is crystal clear, you can stir it, and it does
not cloud up. Should I use a Dechlorinator or
will letting it dry a bit remove the "nasties". is
there a Dechlorinator for SW? Do I just throw
this batch away and buy new? I am shooting
for monday to put my tank together.

That's a good question and I was about to ask the same thing myself.

In my case I will be using "live-sand" as my substrate for a mini-reef (20 gal) I want to start.

Hiya sssnake,
As for LIVE Sand I would rinse it in a LITTLE old tank water,
as you don't want to lose the good buggies in it. It will cloud
a little but should settle down in a couple of days. Tap water
might kill off most, if not all, of the bacteria you paid for.

Just my 2 cent, if you are using live sand...i don't believe you need to rinse it. The only time you need to rinse sand is if it is the dry sand, that is because there might be dirt of dust in it.

If you already rinced it in tap water then dont worry about it. Just use it no dechlorinator needed. Please do use Ro/DI water to mix your saltwater with. Always use Reverse Osmosis unit when mixing new saltwater to remove all the nitrates and silicates and other nasties. Go buy a TDS water meter and only use water that teats no more that 5 PPM on the meter. Or else its hair algea city.

Thanks for the info Jay, I am trying to put together all
of the equipment I will need without my wife fainting.
If I do it a little at a time she won't freak.

As far as the water, I bought 25gals of distilled water.
and am going back for more. (I bought all WM had.)
Water changes will be only 5 gals at a time. Not that
bad just to buy it. I am looking for a good (CHEAP) RO/DI
unit telling wife that the side benefit would be better
drinking water.
