| QT Tank question... Hey Guys,
Real quick question on setting up an Eclipse QT Tank. I mixed the water and it has been running for about three days... I just this morning added some water, sand, and a piece of live rock from my established tank. I am curious how long I need to let it run prior to adding a fish to it. Since I don't technically need to wait for any rock/sand to cycle, should it be okay right away?
Thanks a bunch! _________ 20 Gallon Reef Tank

| Trancy I don't put anything in my QT tank except for a large piece of PVC pipe T fitting for them to hide in, As any chemical treatment that you may do for any sick fish that you have in QT may kill anything living in the rock and sand causing an ammonia spike in your tank. Also if you use copper treatment in your QT it will be absorbed into your Rock and sand and it will no longer be able to be used in your display tank as the copper will slowly leach out of the rock and into your display tank. | OK, yes it is but remember there is nothing to remove any ammonia either. You will need to do frequent water changes and test for ammonia.

| Okay, if I take everything out....and just put in a piece of PVC...would I need to wait for any period of time? What if I were to leave everything in? Then how long?
****Seems as though Diver's post was posted while I was typing mine...thanks*** |

| I would just wait a few days for the water to stabilize. With QT's you want to chage the water frequently to prevent ammonia and nitrogen waste build up. I keep my QT up and running all the time and run a biowheel filter so I never get ammonia build up. _________ 75g reef with Nova Extreme 8 bulb HO T-5 lighting, refuge, Remora skimmer, DSB, Seio powerheads, Acro's, LPS corals, assorted zoo's & mushrooms, Yellow Tang, Maroon Clown, Blue Cleaner Goby , Cleaner, Fire and Sexy Shrimp, Coco Worm, T.Crocea Clam, Derasa Clam
