Default Hyposalinity treatment ?

Hey gang. Well both of my fish have ich  (well im pretty sure its ich). My perc is full and my six line wrasse has 2 or 3 spot on its tail as of yet. So i just finished setting up a QT tank with an old 20 gallons. And i want to try to treat with hyposalinity. Whats the procedure. Right now the sg is at 1.024. Do i put the fish in and slowly bring it down to 1.010 / 1.015. Or do i just stick the fish in water at 1.010 / 1.015 (what would be the right sg?) i have both choices cause the tank is not full yet so i can go both ways no problem.

Thanks

Marc.

Hi Marc

Have a read of this article

http://www.petsforum.com/personal/tr...marineich.html

Not only does it explain Ich very well ( IMO ) but discusses the different treatments in a fair manner

Do a fresh water dip on the fish immediately and then place in the QT. I've recently fought and won the battle with ich. Take some fresh water and add some SW so you have a 90/10 mixture of FW and SW. Adjust the temperature and pH with baking soda and then aerate the water with an air stone for 15min. Then dip each fish for 3-5 min. Remember to aerate after dipping each fish. This will remove most of the parasites from the fish. I added several drops of methylene blue to the dip as it helps increase oxygen diffusion and puts less stress on the fish. You want the water to become a nice even blue color.
As far as hyposalinity is concerned there are varying reports on its effectiveness. Check out the info at www.wetwebmedia.com. I used seachems Cupramine copper to treat my fish and it worked great. It wont stain your silicone in your QT and can easily be removed with A. Charcoal or seachems copper resin- cuprisorb. Its also supposed to be less toxic to fish.
As far as your main tank is concerned you will have to let it go fallow without fish for 8-12 weeks. Also, remember to raise the temp in the QT and main tank to 82 as this speeds up the life cycle of ich.
These are just my suggestions on what worked for me and from all the research I've done on the net. I'm sure others have used other methods with success. Good Luck and hope this helps some!

Sorry, in my reply I said to adjust the SG with baking soda, but I meant to say pH! I've corrected my post.
