 |  HELP! Water Cloudy, flame scallop possibly dead
I came home from work today to find my tank in serious trouble or so it seems. The water is the cloudiest i have ever seen it. Looks very bad. My flame scallop looks like he is dead or close to it. Fish seem to be okay, most corals look about the same except, one mushroom is gigantic seems to have almost doubled in size since yesterday? weird I know. 250W 15 K VHO Halide(HCI), 130W PC, blue LED moonlight. 30 gallon tank about 7 months old, with a yellow tale blue damsel, clown fish, serpent star, star polyps, ricordea, candy cane corals, mushrooms, hermits, green porcelain crab, 2 pincushions, snails, flame scallop and a rock anemone. I removed an anemone from the tank about 2 days ago. I had ordered it online and it was doing great...I mean it was huge for about 2 days then it went downhill FAST! Now I think the Flame Scallop is dying as well. I am pretty new to this and I have heard tons of horror stories. I have about 4 gallons of RO and some premixed salt water I could do a water change with?

Hey! Yes I would def. do a water change with new saltwater I'd do about 10% Wonder why it was cloudy | |

You need to test your water parameters as well to get a better idea of what your tank is doing and to better determine the solution to your possible problem!
Water changes are always a great quick fix but unless you know the real underlying problem, many times you are just putting off the problem that could ultimately become drastically worse!
Is your filtration up to speed and are you dosing carbon?

Well after some further examination the water isn't cloudy. There is a slime on the glass...It appears to be easily wiped off with my finger and looks brownish greenish. I noticed that the some LR was getting a fairly dark coloring (on some LR I got from a tank that was disassembled at my College.) The rock had been out of the tank for some time and was dry when I introduced it to the tank. The other rock that I have had n the tank since the start doesn't seem to have this problem? So I guess I will be doing some research today on how to get rid of this before it takes over my tank. I am leaving the halides off today and only putting the PC lights on. To help slow down the slime...MAYBE? Any suggestions on how to get rid of the slime? | |

The new LR (Or old dry base rock) will go through a cycle. the algae is a result of this. You may find a huge Ammonia, Nitrite spike or just have very high levels of Nitrate. If this is a new set up I would be very worried for the fish and inverts in it. If it is established you may need to increase your water changes while you ride out this mini cycle

is the dark algae on your rock really dark and slimy? does it come off in sheets or patches? | |

Get some snails. Turbos are great for keeping glass clean. Also invest in a mag float scraper.

Maybe to much in such a small tank? I had the same problem with my 30 gallon found out it was a filter problem. Changed my filter out and just let it run fixed its self all my fish did fine while this was going on took 3 to 4 days did you do anything different with your filter?? | |
