 |  Help Sick Fish?
This morning i noticed 4 white spots on my percula clown(2 weeks in my tank)and one on the lemon peel(6 days in my tank) It is a 55g w/ live rock/live sand. The spots seemed to be raised on the skins surface. I am thinking ick but i have'nt ever seen ick. My plan is to get kick ick and dose for 40gallons (55g-liverock&sand) I also was thinking about getting a cleaner shrimp and treat food with garlic. What do you all think any other suggestions. Would a fresh water dip help or is it too late I am hoping to catch it early. Water quality is perfect I have been testing daily and no nitrates, nitrites, am. I am also thinking of lowering the salinity from 1.026-1.022

it sound like ich, i once had the same problem with a clown fish. if you dose makes sure to read the label carefully as some medicatioins will help the fish but kill many other organisms in the tank. keeping you salinity at a lower level also stops the reproduction of ich from what i have read. good luck and keep the dose at a minimum as to not shock the fish.

It has to be ich. I think there is some truth to the ich at high salt levels, gonna try to lower it.
Feeding food with garlic and vitamin c is very good in curing the ich. Also, I am against freshwater dips as they will stress the fish out even more and I would think temporarily removes the ich, but will come back once the fish is re-introduced into the tank. If I were you, I'd hold off on the kick ich and find better alternatives, if it doesn't work, go kick ich; use it as a last resort.

Some fish shy away from cleaner shrimp. Others take to them very naturally.
A skunk shrimp is the best imo.

Thanks everyone! When I got home last night the spots were gone and still gone today? Not sure what happened but I am glad they are gone. | |

It sounds like ich. Ich will come and go on your fish until the fish get stressed or you add another fish to the tank and then it may strike in full force. Cleaner shrimp may help some but willl not rid the tank of the problem.
I'm a very strong believer in FW dips to temporarily remove the parasites off the fish. I use this when the fish are all covered with ich or just before placing them in a QT tank. I even do a FW dip on all my newly purchased fish before placing them in my QT for 2 weeks before introducing them in my display tank. I have used this method for years and have never lost a fish due to FW dip.
IMHO, you should consider getting a QT tank for your fish and treat them for ich and then let your display tank go without fish for 8-12 weeks.
Read my reply to the post "Hyposalinity". You might want to check out marine diseases section and forums on www.wetwebmedia.com and also do a google search on the treatment of marine ich. There is a wealth of info and many discussions on the treatment of marine ich.
