Is it normal for him to be pecking at it since it is new in the tank or will he continue to do this?

When he goes near it i scare him away

Sally light foots are generally not coral safe. You need to catch him and trade him back to your LFS. Just wondering, why did you get one?

I've got a sally in my tank (unwanted hitchhiker) that I've been trying to catch for a couple of weeks now with a bottle trap - get a small bottle, put some food in the bottom and tie some string round the neck. When crab goes in to get food pull the string and hes stuck in the bottle.

So far i've caught both my fireshrimps, several hermits and my emerald crab (three times) with this but the sally is still evading me

I will catch him soon though (I refuse to be outsmarted by a crab)

Also have a plan B. My LFS told me that the only way he caught his sally was by spotting the hole in the LR that he hid in and then stabbing it repeatedly with a chopstick

I had same problem with a gorilla crab that hitched in with some LR from Florida. (small, brown, fuzzy, very destructive)

Took allot of patience to catch him with a small crab trap I made after design of my large trap hanging out in garage.

Used small square piece of bridel veil mesh, each corner tied with some fishing line. Baited it with a small piece of some "aged" shrimp...and then just waited till he showed up to eat. finally got the little SOB (and his brother)...both now sharing space somewhere in my freezer.

Good luck with whatever method you use.

Omard you don't have any pics of that gorilla crab by any chance do you, i have been told by the pictures supplied that i have a gorilla crab living in my live rock, so far he is only about inch, inch & half big, and nothing seems destructive about him yet, just want to make sure it is a baddie before i go through all the trouble of trying to get him out....?
