We have just 4 Tetras and an albino catfish left now and none are showing signs of disease. Just done a 20% water and added Cycle super concentrate formual to aquariums healthy and also some anti fungal and fin rot treatment.
Fingers crossed that this works. I am to leave it now for 7 days and then our local centre will test a sample of our water free of charge for us.
It seems a regular thing this, too quick to get something swimming in the tank. Wish we had waited but its not too late to hopefully get a successful tank up and running with patience.
Many thanks for your advice.

Sorry to here if they charge you.

1) a covered top on the tank limits the oxygen level in the water without supplementation of air

2) depending on what the tank was cleaned with prior to putting the livestock in the residue left behind would cause this effect.

Good point with #1. As I recall, CO2 can collect up there if enclosed.

Wouldnt the tank be cycled now that it had an ammonia spike? if not just leave those fish in there and check on them often. after a while (say 2 weeks) you can add about 1/2 fish a week. Good Luck and welcome the art of Aquaria!
