| GETTIN' A NEW SKIMMER Hey Everbody!
I'm gonna' buy a new skimmer for my 55 gal. tank. I was thinkin' bout getting a seaclone because the price is nice. I can get one from DR. fosters + smith for $60.00 w/out shippin' but it comes with the pump. Does anybody have any recomendations for skimmers under $80.00? This price would include any pumps etc I might need for it to work. Or any good websites I could purchase it from that would be cheaper than DR. foster + smith? Also off the subject I picked up a 12 lbs. piece of live rock yesterday. Today I noticed 3 small white "things" on it. They are solid white with 8 little tenticles on a stem. Looks like a very small anomone. How can I tell if this is a good or bad anomone.

| Re: GETTIN' A NEW SKIMMER Hey david,
Be sure you check out e-Bay's offerings on skimmers. I have gotten some AWESOME deals through them. Just read everything, and if you aren't sure about the skimmer, have one of us take a look at it for you. I would be happy to, by the way.
Here's the link: http://search.ebay.com/ws/search/Sal...p;BasicSearch= That contains the search and everything. I think I saw a total of 83 skimmers, so take a good, hard look. You may find a gem!!! Good luck!!! Keep us posted!!!

| Re: GETTIN' A NEW SKIMMER Stear clear of the the Seaclone, nothing but problems and no skimming. I use mine for helping mix water, thats it. I wouldn't even sell it to any one, or give it to them for that matter. Prizms are a step up, but I'd go up another notch and look into the Ramora, most HOTS and Bak Paks. I've had excellent experience with the Bak Pak, only draw back is the o-ring. but ifs thats my only complaint, then its a damn good skimmer. The PM Hot is nice, draw backs include bubbles being returned to tank (has bubble trap, but needs to be cleaned quit often to keep bubbles from being returned to the tank) and the ball valve is touchy (but what ball valve isn't? Ball valves by nature are touchy, there not ment for pecentage limitting, just for staight on/off. Gate valves are what should be used). The Knop Hot is also nice, but a real ***** to clean and reassemble and it doesn't have a any connection for a remote waste collector (PM model does). Both the PM and Knop have a kinda of funky cap that needs to be replaced every couple years as they get looser.
Rambling, gotta go, its 4:20am and umh yah I gotta get some sleep. I'll write more sat.

| Re: GETTIN' A NEW SKIMMER My HOB Seaclones work great. They are both new, within the last year, and have the new pumps which make all the difference. A 150 and 100 both skim reasonably well as long as you clean the collection cup weekly and rinse the intake filter sponge every two weeks. I'd rate them as a very good value as both are less than $90 delivered _________ Just tryin to recreate God's perfection in a glass bowl. 20 Gallon Reef W/Live Rock, mated pair of Maroon Clowns, Softies, 110 watts PC 10,000k lighting, and skimmer. http://www.3reef.com/uploads/1craig400.jpg |
