You did or did not have stray voltage? Do you have a grounding probe in your tank? Either way I have seen posts like this before where stray voltage was dicovered but the results from it took a while to show up. Especially in the fish. Most common LLE. Not saying stray voltage did this...just a possibility.

was copper introduced in the tank by accident? and clarify something, did you have stray voltage and you fixed the problem or you didnt have any stray voltage a couple days ago? both questions play a large roll.

yeah I did have stray voltage. i'm 99 percent sure it was from my lights. I clean off the fixture and elevated the lights about 3 in higher above the tank. after doing that I no longer felt electricity when my finger touched the water.
my test kits are aquarium pharmaceutical brand and about 1.5 years old. i'll try to get a copper test kit tomorrow but the snail seemed to be coming back out when I was leaving for work around 4:30 tonight. would copper not bother my cleaner shrimp? how would copper get in there? from the phyto plankton I put in? it's an older bottle but I used it before, just not in the last 4 months. I don't dose anything cause my tank always seems to do fine w/o it. until now I haven't had any problems for a year and a half. thanks for the help guys. I really don't want to lose all my corals. I don't have 1,000s of $ worth, like some of you guys but all my little pieces had grown so much I hate to think of losing that.

I had a similar problem in a tank that is not on my big system I never did figure it out I moved the corals to another tank and there fine the fish live in there fine snails didnt make it though but the crabs are all fine I have checked everything and never have figured it out there is Kenya tree in there but it is transparent I have never seen that either the only thing low in the tank is the iodine and I have fixed that also. I would set up a hospital tank and start your tank over if everything is dyeing thats what I have decided to do. Sorry to hear that your tank sounds as bad as this one.

i would just go out and buy the 15 dollar ground probe totally worth it. especially if you were getting shocked when you put your hands in. or if you have access to a multimeter just test the water. the stray voltage in my tank was hard to feel with your hand but the meter picked it up.

the stray voltage that you had, how long ago did this happen? ive had sps dominated reef tanks in the past with a stray voltage that grew just fine. corals just dont die overnight unless there is something drasticaly wrong. copper wouldnt or shouldnt be introduced by phyto. when is the last water change? trying to help is hard since im not there with my hands on your tank.

I know it is difficult to help online. The stray voltage was first noticed just a few days ago. It could have been going on longer though. I don't put my hands in there everyday. I thought I had fixed it but now I'm not sure. When my lights are plugged in there still feels like electricity. Would that stray voltage cause all of my corals to close up and the mushrooms that used to be the size of silver dollars become smaller than a dime? I will buy the grounding probe if I can't get some new lights soon. I assume it's better for the corals to have no light for a couple days than getting light and stray voltage?

I have some VHO flourescents that I'm going to put on the tank instead of my PCs. Hopefully the corals will improve and that will be the solution to the problem.
