Feeding mt Linckia

I am having some trouble feeding this star.

I put a fresh mussel in the tank under him, but he did not go for it.
My serpent ended up grabbing it, but the Linckia didn't seem interested.

Should I cook the mussel a little first?

I'm worried because I've had him for about 2 weeks and have been unable to feed him. Most of the time he's hiding and I can't see him.

I've been squirting brine under him, in hopes that he's getting something.

Anyone have any ideas?

He should be eating just fine in the 75G. From what I've read, they scavange whatever. So as long as you feed your tank, he's getting food

As far as I know, nobody has yet found out proof positive what linkias really eat. Some say bio-film, some say algae. I have yet to hear of them eating meats or leftover fish food. I suppose that's why it's recommended that one needs a very mature tank to keep these critters.

Live aquaria said to feed it mussel, but they are often wrong.

The linckia should have no problem then.

I heard on a different forum that somebody has been feeding a linicki star and has had him for a surprising amount of time. Need to look that back up. However the success this person had may only be temporary.

Try enticing it with a variety of food stuff from clam, to krill and algae! many times it will comb the benthic area (substrate)of your tank for a bite!
This being said however, Linkia Sea Stars are not very hardy and don't necessarilly have a proven long term success rate-
Fromia sp. are a little better as far as their longevity in captivity, but you are better off with a Brittle or Serpent Sea Star IMO!!!

Well when someone can tell me what a Linka eats I'll pass it along , up until this day i still don't know for sure.. All I know is they will cruse the tank and eat something they tend to like (:
But you have to have a mature system to keep them I think they feed on sand fauna and bacteria ? But No proof of that . But I have never seen them eat food per-say.. So I'd not balxt nything at them if the tank is old enough and healthy they will find what they eat..
