| Is this the end? Ok, well we've had this devil's hand leather for a month now, and it opened polyps day 2 that it was in the tank. It would open and close as it pleased to eat or with the lights.
Now it's been closed for a few days straight, and it has white spots on it.
I'm not sure how it happened. The only changes made were the yellow tang and "elephant coral" were added last weekend, and I put 1/2 cup of Seachem PhosGuard into the filter to fight the cyano. I'm not sure how my wife acclimated them, but she did dump lfs (copper treated?) water into the fish tank with the yellow tang. She probably did the same with the elephant coral lfs water. Could the elephant coral be attacking the devil's hand?
Here's what it looked like previously:
Here's now:
And here's the "elephant coral"
Could someone who knows about this please tell me if the devil's hand is done for, or if it is treatable and how? Thanks. _________ 55gal, 65+ lbs LR, 60Lbs LS, Coralife 125 ss, Fluval 305, HydorKoralia 2 + 3, 2 YT Damsels, 2 Misbarred Clownfish, Blue Tang, Yellow Tang, Leopard Wrasse, Asstd snails and hermit crabs, skunk cleaner shrimp, 3 peppermint shrimp, emerald crab, goniopora stokesi, frogspawn, and some other corals. |

| The elephant coral cant be attacking it unless they actual touch. As for the copper, I would run some carbon and do water changes to get that out. Most LFS do use copper to treat their fish. Is that sand on the leather or is it the reflection because its glossy. Usually when leathers close up, it could mean that it is shedding (good because it means its growing). Try using your finger and create waves around the leather but don't touch it. See if any of the skin is peeling. |

| Need to stop adding other corals for now, I would say from the appearance of these photos , they look like their still hanging in there, they just look pissed is all.
Or maybe just shedding'
Are your water parametes correct ?
Ph and alk ?
I would say do some partial water changes over the course of a few days. _________ <B><FONT face="Comic Sans MS">[font="Tahoma"] Got Questions? Need Answers?

| Last weekend, in addition to adding the PhosGuard, I also put in fresh carbon and biomax in the filter. I don't think the skin is peeling. It did that the first/second day I had it before it opened. Has anyone seen these white spots on any of their leather coral before? |

| I agree except for the shedding. It looks deflated to me, like it completely withered. If it was shedding wouldn't you still see some mass there? I'm nowhere near an expert so take that with a grain of (sea)salt.

LOL, well you know the elaphant ear can be a hungry beast and will eat fish
( they clamp up on unsuspecting fish and consume them ) and they do get LARGE.
Ive seen white spots from time to time on my leathers as well in the stalk area.
I think they'll be fine they look firm and dark, the only time you should be concerned is if the leather/s begin to look as if their melting and falling apart.
Also im not a big fan of any phosgaurd ( liguid )/chemicals in the tank.
If you want to use something to reduce phosphates try using a phosban reactor with the granular media (tm). |

| Thanks, it's not falling apart yet. The minute I start to see that it is falling apart, I'll be removing it from the tank and putting it in the garbage. It has just been closed up for much longer than usual, and it shrunk to 1/2 of its normal size. |

| Run some Cupri-sorb to take out any copper (carbon won't take it out) but don't worry about the leather coral just yet. |
