It is a Antibacterial treatment w/o Antibiotics

This is the only thing I use for bacterial problems as you should avoid using antibiotics. The also make Primafix for fungal infections.

Thanks, I have some kind of bacterial infection going on with a couple of my fish and possibly a little ich. I was sold Kanamycin to soak with the food. Tonight makes day 10 and I don't see any difference. Maybe I'll try the Melafix. Can you get it at any LFS or does it need to be ordered on line?

Craig, why do you say to turn off the skimmer for a couple of day?Why is that?

Thanks, Cindy

The Melafix will cause your skimmer to be really difficult to adjust. It causes problems with the water viscosity. I think the instructions even recommend that.

Good job of listening to Matt Rogers Andrew, go slow and let it grow,eh?

If your LFS seperates the SW and FW meds you may want to look in the FW section. Most fish stores carry Melafix.

Andrew,

How sure are you that it is fin rot?

John

I am pretty sure, I def. don't think its ich. There are no white spots and the fish seems happy as can be. It eats everything even right after I first introduced it to the tank. The only thing that looks bad is the tips of the fins fraying. If someone can help me with getting a pic to postable size I can try and take one.

Do the fins themselves seem reddish or infected? That seems to be a sign of fin rot. Have an Internet search on fin rot, there are many pictures you can refer to and compare.

I just think it is better to get a fairly certain diagnosis of what could just be a tear or nibbling by other fish before dosing with medication.
