i was suspecting that my dog was drinking out of the garbage can i have my top off water in. his saliva isnt enough to cause this problem, unless he was eating something in my yard. also my top off water is next to the washing machine in my garrage. my wife said she didnt remember spilling anything around the machine, but you never know. ill do a change tonight... thanks guys

Default water

when you added the new water did you possibly disturb the sand bed in the refuge? just a thought

i have a small nudibranch(about1" long), could he be my problem. ive heard of nudi's poisoning a tank. how would someone know if thats what is causing the problems? and wouldn't it kill the fish as well? by the way, he is still alive.

Default Salinity

Not saying this is the problem because it sounds like you have many possibilities, too many. I somewhat disagree with previous post on salinity. Assuming you have 25 gal. in your 55 gal. sump and I did my math right, by adding 6 gal. fresh water you caused ~ 5 point drop in salinity (1.027 to 1.022). Don't know what affect this would have on what corals.
I do agree with all of the rest of the advice. I must point out I do not have corals other than ricordia, zoos, and a few other polyps.

Best of luck

Walt

_________

Glass 90 and 110, skimmer in both 30 gal. sumps, 1150 GPH, plus a 75 gal fuge!! Yellow tang, several damsels, 2 lg flower anems, brown & rose BTA's (8" dia.) with 3 perculas, 5 ricordia, dozens shrooms, dozens of yellow, brown and green polyps, lots of snails, hermits, bugs and 3 inch worms. Mangroves, caulerpa, LR, LS, pics coming

thanks walt, i kinda figured it had something to do with those two buckets i added since shortly after is when the problems started.

the corals seem to be slowly recovering except my xenia. i did an 11 gal water change last night. hopefully if something got in my water, im cycling it out.

thanks for all the suggestions guys. my reef seems good now. it was probably the sudden jump in salinity. im slowly raising salinity up to 1.026.
