I think you'll be fine. I've had dusters for long periods of time with good survival rates. I had one that did something similar when I brought it home. Got me so freaked out I almost gave it away and swore I'd never get another one. Try moving locations. Water flow may be too much? I'd start to worry if you see the worm outside of the tube laying in the substrate being eaten by your inverts. I've had this happen once.

hey pwoller i have the same problem my coco worm was fine for like 3 weeks now it hasnt been out for 2 weeks my lfs said they do that sometimes they inturnally clean them self i dont know how true it is but they said the other thing could be my pygmy angel could be nippin at it so its scared to come out the pygmy is goin if i find a home for it its nippen at all my coral i see it doin it all the time so it could be you angel fish

The coco worm is back, its feathers seem smaller and a lighter color. Do they molt?

pwoller my just started comin out 4 days ago the feathers were lighter and smaller but tonight is the first time i seen him back to his old self still alittle lighter on the color but back to full size

I have two feather dusters right next to each other- one acts how you describe and is darker and smaller, the other is lighter, larger, and out most of the time.

yes, most feather worms molt. My duster is just regrowing its feathers after not having them for about 2 weeks........
