PorkyBubs is on a roll

Default Clown Fish!!!

My clown fish has a white eye (looks blind). It started going down hill really fast the last 15 mins. Just beacuse it looked almost dead i fresh water dipped him for 5 mins. It looks like he has 3 white spots and the white on his eye looks like its coming off. Anyone know what this is and should i fresh water dip him longer?

i just put him back in the main tank because he might be stressed enough already!
5min. in fresh water is probably all that he can stand

Pop eye is more of a condition than anything else. The eye could have been scratched or there could be an underlying bacterial infection. If you suspect infection and you have a QT, I would remove him. If it is trauma, I would leave him in unless the other fish are bugging him.

If it is bacterial, a broad spectrum antibiotic (tetracycline as an example) can be used, but I hesitate to use it in anything but a QT. I don't know much about treating entire tanks and the consequences thereof.

Be aware that the fish may lose sight in that eye. It is not a for sure thing, it just depends on how bad the intraocular pressure gets and how much damage is done to the optic nerve.

Good luck man.......and Peace.......John.
