Read though the link you gave and found it to be quite interesting ! I wounder how many other people do this that way and if they have had the same results as you?
Do you treat your dis. tank or do you have a quarentine tank? If you've never had Ich before, Karma to you !!!

djnzlab1,
I've had the same thing happen to me from the lfs to the point I was not going to add anything more to my tank, until I heard from everyone .
It sounds like the UV has helped many people and would be a great insurance policy . Glad to hear that it seems to be working for you!
Curious, do you use it all the time?
Scott,

I have never treated my DT with any meds.

I have only treated with meds or hypo with a QT.

The question now arises can ich survive on invertabrates when there are no fish in your tank?

Default The Past Month

Hi,
I just added my sterilizer recently , so I am letting it run, I may turn it off after a couple month's,
Here's my theory on ich, the larger the fish the older it may be, for some reason really small baby fish haven't accquired immunity to ich, Many petstores sell wild caught fish , I believe many wild caught fish are damaged goods unless they practice excellent capture technics.
Ich seems to stay once in a tank, I feed garlic daily, I feed spirella daily, not sure if it helps it could be stimulating the immune response. I only see ich on new fish?
My favorite fish store keeps fish diary this really helps to ID if the fish are acclimated to tank living, and weeds out the sickly fish.
Finally If the fish lives 2 mos it will proably be fine, that first week is really tough on many animals.
Water flow seems to improve immunity. As does wet skimming may help with free swimming larva,
I have never had any luck with meds or hypo saline, in my mind it could damage delicate gill tissues.
And with humans fresh water drowning is more likely to be fatal than saltwater due to its damaging effect on rbc's in the lungs i wonder if can damage rbc in fish gills.
Doug

PSPS I believe in Skunk shrimp, all my tanks have at least one the ich patrol..If my shrimp are grooming fish I check the UV sterilzer to see if its clean. hehe.
All UV sterilizers reaquire frequent cleaning to work, many are worthless after a couple week of use due to mud in the light path.
Mine was full of sand after a couple weeks, I cleaned it and adjusted or reduced down the flow and over night everyone seemed better.
