Default bta problem

i just got home from work and when i look at my bta i found that there is a browinist ring around the root of it, it looked like decay of some sort, i took it out and have fear that it might be dead, the nite b4 he was crunched up and this morning he was open, i took him up to smell and see he is still alive or not, he doesnt smell, i put him back and he look like he is reaching up to the light i need advice plz

the root still have sand stuck around it, does poop come out from the end of the mouth?

yeah they do expel waste that way (poop). Try to set him on a rock, In my experiences bta's don't like sand.. If he doesn't attach after a few days then I'd worry more. How old is your tank??

around a yr old, but the bta is open up really nicely and now the color is more brighter than before
