Default Blenny Looking Skinny

Hey everyone.

I just got a call today from my parents telling me that my blenny was looking very skinny. He is eating and swimming and...looks all around fine besides his flat belly. Whenever i am back and feed the tank he is always eating alot... Anyone think they know what could be up?

I told them that as long as he is eating and swimming ok hes should be fine. I am going to try to head home tomarrow to check it out though.

Ugh, I hope hes ok, he is my oldest fish...almost 4 years.

Edit: He is a ...Rock/Lawnmoer/Algae/er...Blenny

Like you said ...as long as he's eating and swimming he should be fine.

Could it be a lifespan issue?

http://www.petco.com/caresheets/fish/Blenny.pdf

I did a small search and lifespan (under ideal care) seems to hover around 5 years or so.

Best of luck

Hey Bruce,
I have a Red-Lipped Blenny and he seems to go through a spell where he looks anorexic, then, eventually he gets his weight back again. I don't know if it has anything to do with the algae he eats or not. I try to feed him frozen foods as well as algae which looks like he is eating.
Your Blenny should be ok, just keep an eye on him and try offering alternative food stuff to try to entice him as maybe your Blenny isn't getting the right or enough nutritional needs!

Ya. I did always notice some sort of pattern of skinnyness and fullness...but since I am no longer at home as often its hard to tell from what I hear. They made it sound pretty bad...but then said..."well he is eating and swimming ok...". I am going to head over today though.

Man...5 years is the average life span, thats too bad.

Thanks Guys!

Well I was finally able to get home, just in time to cut out about 90% of my colt coral...brown jelly...ugh. Still no sign of the blenny, but I am hoping that is due to all of the debrees from the colt. Ugh...if the average life span is 5 years...thats pretty close to him. I hope I can find him.

Default Blenny Age

How do you know how old your blenny is. Is there any way to determine the age since I bought him at a local fish store? Jglo5

Well I bought him about 4 years ago, he was not that big, but not they small. I would guess about 5 years. I am not sure if there is really a way to tell age besides size, and even that is not always correct.
