It grows in tufts mostly, as opposed to a carpet. It's not hair algae. It reminds me of the fuzz on the back of a fuzzy ****on, if you've seen one. I did have a ****on, but the CUC ate the fuzz off his back the first day. Nevertheless this could be descended from it.

It's not 'taking over' the tank, but there is more of it than I want to see.

    Nobody, huh?

I found a few old threads at various websites inquiring about (what sounds like) this, but none with pics and none with answers - which told me it was probably not a major problem. The threads just fizzled.

Well, I can tell you one thing: I just brought home an emerald crab, and he is ripping this stuff up by the roots, and devouring it like ice cream!! ;D

I think I'm gonna resurect this thread, with an updated pic. The stuff is still slowly but steadily growing, and the emerald crab, while he does eat it, isn't making a dent in it.

Sorry, hadn't seen your thread earlier.

It looks like you have black Brush Algae - it uasually is do to excessive lighting or not enought CO2. Improve your circulation and remove as much as you can end it will die off. what is your current lighting?

google "black hair algae" I think that is what most refer to it as.
