Default strange small red dots on tank walls

hey guys, so i noticed im getting a lot of very small, like ball point pen tip, sized dots on the tanks walls. Ive got a few feather dusters and a few LPSC.. (small frags).. strange thing is, i was moving around a piece of upside down broken pottery (after my poor plate coral died - no he didnt make it) and inside was this long worm looking thing, but it was pretty heavily encrusted and looked kinda like a very thin feather duster body.. looked like a crusty piece of thick spaghetti.. it was gone the next day so it was alive.. I also place a small 8 pound pieceof live rock a few weeks back. So im thinking corraline, worm invasion, or something more sinister.. ill try to get a few pics tonight, but it seriously looks like small dried bits of blood.. and when i scrubbed a few spots it was pretty tough, like tar or something.. hmmm

flipster

by the way, i havent been running a skimmer since my piece of junk "nano" skimmer died (shall remain nameless).. LFS said with a 20 gallon tank and 10 percent water changes every two weeks and i wouldnt need one... but i think maybe i do

yeah zombie im with you, i just did a quick level check.. my ammonia and no2 is always zero, but my no3 is at like 80? what the heck!! im going to pick up a remora c skimmer tomorrow without a doubt following a brisk water change.. i also started adding calcium for my coral and that might be a contributer.. added small increments over a week and calcium is at around 370.. but im freaked, ive never seen my no3 get above 20ppm.. shoot

Default wow you need a reforguim/sump

HI,
I would cut up a few pieces of PVC and cover it with nylon screen and then place it in a small tank I like 20 tall or 30tall. cover it with a few inches of cheep sand, put in a shoe box with some algae add a light a return and you need a over flow return. And you have a handy reforguim/sump that will keep your tank pretty stable and a place to hang the skimmer out of site.
Here's the one I made for a couple bucks it works great. it also stablizes your water level and provides a place for the copods and amphipods to live i recently added tiger pods , I don't like hermits or starfish in sumps only nassirus snails, worm, and glass shrimp. I haven't been able to measure any nitrates or nitrite.
Doug
