Default red hairs...

Can anyone help me identify my situation??? I have an out break of red hair all over my substrate, looks like algae hair but red.. Thought it was an algae bloom...

probably cyanobacteria, how old is your tank and do you use ro/di water?

the tank is 8 weeks young...what kind of specimen should i look into to help control my situation?? I syphon the substrate every two weeks...

nothing is going to eat that, you need to get your po4's and nitrates under control. i would start by switching to ro/di or ro water asap. and start running some sort of phosphate sponge like ferric oxide. also you might want to invest in some purigen by seachem. do you have any fish/inverts in your tank right now? what type of substrate are you using?
