Question Random kelp ???

Also known as brown macro I think. I live all of 10 min from the beach, and while I would not poach livestock I started wondering about beached kelp from feeding and/or sump/fuge use. Thoughts?

As well as, the possibility of adding un-wanted parasites and the fact that the water temp. where you are is considerably lower than your tank. Although, some macro (caulerpa for instance) can live in random temps.

Ok, so it's a bad idea. It's not like I can't get the same stuff commercially for pennies anyway I have known a few people to yank stuff out of tide pools and drop it in, but I'm sort of opposed to poaching...

I did have a one-time dream to set up a CA "rock reef" tank simulating the kelp beds in the Channel Islands, but most of that stuff (Blue Lobsters, Garibaldi, etc) is protected AFIK. And very, very, large.
