Default Pink Coraline?

HI,
I was at my LFS, and they had a shippment of some aged live rock from FIJI, and it looked really neat I bought a couple small pieces cause it was 9 bucks a pound yikes.
It had Pink Coraline and a little white on each rock, it was so nice looking I hope it will grow in my tank. The rocks are very porus looking full of holes.
I put the rocks in the front of my tank and check it every nite after work its getting alittle lighter after the move. Hope its oK..
Doug

wow, 9 bucks a lb!! Its still nice rock though. The white will color back up and turn pink as well. In a few months your whole tank will be covered, lol. It is realy cool to watch. All the pink mite turn white for a few weeks as the coralline gets use to you lighting, but dont worry it will color up better than ever after!! Have fun,

Michael

Try getting some purple up and leave your actinics on for a few hours longer then your regular lights(assuming you have actinics). Coraline really needs actinic lighting to thrive. Read my article in the 3reef articles about liverock. I make 40 gallon tubs of liverock to sell to the LFS all the time.

If you already have pink coraline on the rock this will start spreading soon enough with good water parameters and good lighting.

The "purple-up" topic has been debated on many a previous thread....I personally would let nature take its course.

Good luck!

Default Hi Ssnakes

hI,
Hey do you post on a reptile forum,,, we may have similar interest..I won't mention the Killer REptiles if you don't . hehe
Doug
PSPS I use that Argomilk in my tanks it Has lots of Calcium, Strotium, and that alk buffer it keeps my PH > my CA> and Buffers that balances nicely.
QUOTES >>>>>(
In closed systems, carbonate is consumed both as a buffer to neutralize organic acids, and combines with calcium for coral and coralline algae growth. The aragonite in aragaMILK supplies calcium and other major and minor trace elements plus time release carbonate ions in a safe balanced form. Now "Improved Formula" argagMILK also contains an additional bicarbonate buffer to meet the immediate buffering demands of excess organic acids. AragaMILK is a great way to safely "push" normal seawater values of calcium and alkalinity to accelerate coral and coralline algae growth.

The perfect alkalinty booster because aragaMILK has a full pound of buffer in every 16 fluid ounce bottle. This buffer comes in two forms: a bicarbonate for immediate response, plus carbonate from aragonite. This second form makes for a safer, time-release buffer, over 2-3 days, for long term security without the wild pH swings that can stress your tank inhabitants.

The perfect calcium supplement because aragaMILK has enough calcium in each 16 fluid ounce bottle to grow a full 1/2 pound of coral. All this calcium in a non-caustic aragonite form. With regular use, aragaMILK will help you maintain steady, high calcium levels with ease. No pre-mixing, no balancing act) end of Blaaaa

I ve read its very similar to purple UP And may be a lot cheeper than a calcium generator, not that I am growing coral, waiting on a new light I ordered last week

The first time I started using purple up, all the coralline I had was the burgundy colored kind. Then I used purple up, and the pinkish purple started growing. I quit using it on my show tank cause I liked the burgundy color. I use it on all of my liverock grow tanks because most people prefer the pinkish purple.

Thats cool!! I wish more places would help coralline on live rock stock. I always get the white boring rock, lol. Im with you though, my xenia rock has some burgandy coralline and it looks 10x's better than the pink. I dont have much purple either. I think different colors do better with different lights. I used to have green, purple, and a few almost orange spots, now just the pink dominates.
