Sure you can put it in your tank. As long as , you don't have anything that will eat it. It will get eaten by my snails if I put it in there.

should be fine, can get a little messy though, something i am testing out right now is buy or use an aquaclear filter and take out all the filter material, put in a dsb, where the filter cartridge was, along with some algaes and it should work as a mini-fuge

Here is a link that shows how to do what Godbert is talking about w/the aquaclear. I came real close to doing this, but I decided just to wait and do a sump/fuge later this summer.

I have some halimeda growing in my tank behind my rocks. My turbos and other snails leave it alone and instead keep up with the other nuisance algae on the rocks and glass. Though since it is a calcareous algae, I have to be sure to keep my calcium levels up. I have had some trouble keeping them above 350ppm, but that could be attributed to other parms in my tank.

And of course, an obligatory picture:

Turbo snails will definitely eat various forms of macro.

I have 5 turbo snails in my main tank will they munch on chaeto algae, if so does the algae grow quite fast and would this benefit the ank and the snails at the same time?

I don't have any first hand experience, but my LFS tried to sale me some when I was worried what my turbo grazers would eat after they cleaned up my tank so fast.

[edit]You could always get just a little bit and see how it does. It will either grow or be a nice snack. [/edit]
