Hair algea

It seems like every time I clean my reactor I get a hair algea outbreak. This last time it's been really bad. Any ideas on why this might be happening?

What type reactor are we talking about ? If it's a Calcium maybe the bubble count is to high ? or are you washing the media ? are you off gassing the effluent ?

It's a Knop-C calcium reactor. The bubble count is about 35 bubbles per minute and I don't know what the effluent is at but it's more of a steady stream than a drip.
I'm not washing the media and I have no idea what you mean about off gassing the effuent.

off gassing is when you run the effluent in to a cup or bucket you can by a degasser and pump air into it .. What you can do is add a cup and fill the cup with reactor media to raise the P.H a bit more and dissolve more media and lower the CO'2 level thats what I'd do Just take a large plastic cup put the effluent hose to the bottom and fill the cup with the media and let that perk up and run over into the sump nothing fancy but it works. Try that next time hell I run one all the time myself cost nothing to do..

Ok I'm with you now. Yea I'm running my effluent into a cup full of media and have been since I set this thing up.

You know the wierd thing is evertime I have a algea outbreak my cheato all but disappears...
