| I left my chaeto in a ball like what you have and it has steady growth, I dont think it matters too much. Flow was also mentioned that it should be tumbling but mine doesn't really move at all and not long ago I threw loads of it away (didn't have anyone to give it to!) as it pretty much filled my whole refugium!
Your lighting schedule may affect the growth, chaeto does require dark periods so if your lights are on in your sump all of the time then you may wish to change it.
By the way it looks like you've got a nice refugium there, cool pics.
