Caulerpa in your tanks

I agree with the above Tom.

Of macroalgaes that could be put into a display tank, Caulerpa's would be one of the last I would want. Once they get their holdfasts into your rock, it's hard to change your mind because you'll never fully be able to get rid of it.

All species of Caulerpa have secondary metabolites (toxins) but they are in varying degrees. Some have a lot like Caulerpa prolifera or Caulerpa taxifolia and a lot of others have much less. However, biological control of it is hit or miss.

Thanks guys!! I wasn't leaning towards that decision to have caulerpa in my main tank, however you guys definitely helped to solidify that decision!

wow.. and to think i was planning on getting some from IPSF... i thought it was a sort of plant that made the tank look more attractive, maybe to feed inverts or whatever... i wonder if anyone had bought it from them and put it in their main tank, not knowing what it would do?? (like i almost did..hehe)

I hate to say it, but I did get some from the lfs thinking it would make it look more natural looking not knowing how it would grow.
I put it in the bottom in a few diff. spots ,and liked the looks of it .
yes, it grows good and then it seems to die back,and starts to grow back again. As far as on my LR goes there isn't any [yet]. I have seen my yellow Tang nipping at the ends and also had a lawnmower Blenny that seemed to get into it . After reading about what you all had to say about it, this just might be another mistake I've made .
