When you say bubbles, are you refering to air bubbles coming out of a protien skimmer of somthing like that, or algae bubbles?

im really not sure.. i dont have protein skimmer but they do look like air bubbles.. as in the bubbles themselves are not colored but they are ontop of the algae.. and they are more like fizz becasue they wont go away.. they are even all over sand and rocks..

Cyanobacteria fixes it's own Nitrogen. Then it creates Oxygen through metabolic processes. The bubbles are Oxygen that is stuck in the biofilm that cyanobactera create.

Is all of the film red or is some of it brown? Sometimes people get a dinoflagellate bloom at the same time as a cyano bloom. Dino's are a royal pain in the neck.

I just had a cyno outbreak due to a friend over feeding the tank. I used red slime remover it works great especially if you do a 25-40% water change also. Check your water parameters and keep a close eye on how much you're feeding the tank.

Basically photosynthesis as in plants. CO2 used and O2 is the end result and like Curt said nicely, bubbles are caught up in the biofilm.
