bryopsis...i think i have it

On one of my rock I noticed two little tufsts of green hairy algae, I tried pulling it out of the tufa rock but it just slides through the tweezers. It has gotten longer and the only other place it is is between my zoos and a tiny bit on the powerheads. What do I do? I hear this stuff is a nightmare! Just when my tank was going great this happens. Does it ever stop? I att'd a pic, the green hair algae is to the left of the shrimp.

what kind of fish do you have in your tank?

2 clowns, 1 yellow jawfish, 1 yellow watchman goby. I feed once every other day, I do a water change every 2 wks, I clean out media, I test water, My temp is at the highest 80, good flow, bulbs since end of January, skimmer just cleaned and skimming crazy.

i have a yellow tang in my tank keeps it pretty much algae free. but check out this stuff algone. it is supose to work great.

I am not a fan of bryopsis...i get is growing all the time on my skimmer outlet...unless you can get a fish that will munch it....well lets just say i am pulling weeds a lot hah.

There is nothing that is kept in a home aquarium that feeds on or will eat bryopsis, Its toxic.. It is said that a steady P.H of 8.6 to 8.8 for 4 weeks and strong aggressive skimming will kill it off . Also I hear Magnesium Chloride at 1500 Ppm for about 2 weeks will kill it ? We had a patch that was getting out of control from a old system, I run my P.H at 8.5 to 8.8 on average anyways so that method I can't say works ?? As for Mag I keep mine at 1600 ppm as a rule also But I never used Mag. Chloride I just use Epsom salts .. I have switched to Kent's Tech M last Monday its nothing really showing up yet.. I did put the old ETSS 600 skimmer on a shelf and switched it out a Precision Marine Bullet a few weeks ago then I noticed it fading to a off brown color and the mats are starting to float off the rock's .

I'm inclined to think its the P.H and aggressive skimming that has more effect then the Mag Chloride .. But Film at Eleven as they say (:
But rest assured that if its truly bryospis nothing will eat it and it will only grow and spread unless you find a weak link in the life cycle of the plant.. I'm going to really look at it tonight and see if the Mag is having any effect on it ??? I try not to notice or study it daily it makes seeing any difference harder for me.

And as for Algone LOL save your money it does not work as advertised imagine that LOL

Thanks Tangster. Well my skimmer hadn't been skimming very well for about 3 weeks, so I just cleaned out the skimmer and oh my lord it is going nuts, I'm emptying it all the time, daily, so hopefully that's my problem, I'm also going to invest in a phosphate sponge because my nitrates are at zero. The algae isn't long any suggestions on how I can manually remove it because tweezers didn't work, and I think it's spreading already.
