About one week after I started my tank I noticed that there was a clear membrane starting to form over my rocks. It was really noticeable in the areas that had bright color spots on it. I am not sure what the bright colored spots are called or the clear mucus looking stuff is, any ideas? See the first two pics...

I also started getting some brown spots the other day which I guess is normal for a tank that is a little over a week old, see last two pics...

    Thanks for you help...Jeff

The first two pictures look like it is sponge growing on your rocks.

yeah the brown stuff is normal that diatom algae will likely get worse before it gets better. but that other stuff i dont know either.

yeah sounds like a cycle. keep your lighting hours to a very minimum level.will help prevent huge algae outbreak. make sure you dont change the wwater during the cycle it will only slow down the cycle. good luck
