| Algae Question (worried) Could you please tell me what type of algae this is and how to get rid of it? It is not to bad yet (worried). The first pic is very zoomed in at the bas of the Xenia of the second pic. This is a new tank running 5 weeks. Water parameters have been great and we have no fish yet. We have 16 snails, 1 Emerald crab and 6 hermit crabs. Oh we were told it is not necessary to do water changes quite yet with these readings and no fish … Correct?
Parameters as of Friday:
Sp gravity = 1.025
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 0
PH = 8.3
Ca = 400
KH = 9
Phosphates = 0 Ammonia = 0
Thanks again!

| That "feathery" kind of green hair algae is usually bryopsis...
All kinds of the darn stuff, mostly very nasty. (normal good algae eaters won't touch it.)
Pull as soon and as much as you can by hand. (read link below)

| If it's on that rock that the xenia is on I would toss the hole thing. Xenia is a dime a dozen and not worth the chance of introducing evasive algae in the tank. _________ Scott 265g (Peninsula)

I understand there are lots of Xenia around, and true if you can find a club close to your location, you can often times find it for free even, but I had to pay about 40 Bucks for mine, and thats not a lot of money, but 40 bucks here and 40 bucks there adds up in a hurry. |
