Well I figure why put all your eggs in a single basket ? all have their benefits But seems in the last 15 yrs people want to specialize ?
I like a wet Dry for their extra benefits of Higher Oxygen levels and many would say Nitrate factory's Not sure where that started I have never had an issue with the NO3 problem. But I run about 25% of my water through the sump over the bio media per Hr Not a 100% as many do..

I like a Plenum or DSB for Natural Nitrate control and I use these in my refugum where its totally safe. So I also have a DSB BUT NOT IN MY MAIN TANK never.

I passively use mechanical filtration also i.e Floss and Carbon But Its just a simple HOB acrylic box inside the sump that all the skimmer discharge water passes over and through.

I use a Skimmer also (:
I have a tank of L/R that was dead rock about 500 lbs in a 180 and another 100 pounds laying in the sump.
I have always ran my systems like this Its a Mutt (: and not Purebred problem..

So at the end of the day I have the best of all of them.
