FWIW, I don't have a link off the top of my head, but significant progress was made in the captive rearing of Yellow Tangs (Zebrasoma flavescens) in Hawaii a few years ago. It wasn't successful, but they did get far along in the process.

If you see how many tangs spawn in nature (in aggregations and making huge vertical rises off the reef) you may begin to understand how something like a Cherubfish (Centropyge argi) can be spawned successfully in a 24 gallon nanocube but something like most any Tang may well be out of reach for 99.9% of the private individuals keeping saltwater systems.
