I have learned to keep the rock on the glass and add the sand around it. I have had a few diggers and over time you can see the rock falling..
If you will never have any fish or creatures that dig, then this looks fine.
Also, when placing it, if it feels unstable to you putting it in, then you should add a reef rock epoxy of some kind. I like the putty.
