Just shop around! Your plan sounds great, exactly what you should do to a T! Good way to seed the base rock is to do weekly water changes and keep the water till you have enough for curing the rock, then add a powerhead & heater. Putting a peice from your old tank isn't really necessary, but won't hurt. Your water should have the proper bacteria in it to seed the rock by itself. Good luck & let us know how it goes!
