Well...IMO the pros of sand outweigh the cons. I love the way a tank looks with nice clean sand. (I have a DBS and once and a while I will buy a cup or two of new sand, suck some "dirty" sand out of the top of my tank and add the new sand...kinda cheating but hey.) Also with more sand you will have more biological filtration not to mention all the little critter that will help feed your tank.
BESIDES...its hard to find a coral reef without any sand in the ocean
I know...the argument can be made otherwise but...you get the idea.
