As for the size you can really skim a tank to death as for the rim of the top of the tank that will be no problem you can cut that lip or just tilt skimmer to go in and past that .. But thats a awful lot of skimmer for your tank.. I try to under size my skimmers a little .. People really don't think much about how a skimmer works in relation to the water flow through the sump and past the skimmer. If you size the skimmer to match the flow past it is the best way I found If you add a refugium then the skimmer will be even smaller as there will be less for it to skim.. This skimmer on your tank would be flat 90% of the time . Nothing for it to do. (: Less is often times more.
