We don't make downdrafts, high-speed aeration, Becketts, needle-wheels, or any variation on these methods to produce bubbles for lots of good reasons: Inconsistent performance, noise, micro-bubble problems, proprietary pumps, constant attention, and lots of maintenance. If you don't believe us just take a look at the number of people on the bulletin boards with problems or asking for assistance. Sure, some people are happy, but there are many that are not satisfied. Unlike the high-flow downdrafts, Becketts, and needle-wheels the Lifereef venturi skimmers perform with fantastic results with very little maintenance. Using a venturi the bubbles are produced and introduced into the skimmer in a gentler, but highly efficient, method with silent operation, and best of all very little maintenance.

Not all venturi skimmers are alike. The majority of venturi skimmers on the market do require attention, constant adjustment, cleaning the venturi, sucking noises, etc. Not the Lifereef...........

The Lifereef protein skimmers utilize a Self-Cleaning Venturi (SCV) setup that eliminates all salt clogging which is the main cause of poor skimmer performance. Not only does this feature keep the venturi clean it also allows the skimmer to run silent, recirculates the air within the skimmer (room atmosphere does affect skimmer performance), and can prevent cup flooding or overflow. No other venturi skimmer has this fantastic feature!

Ozone? You bet! The Lifereef protein skimmers were one of the first skimmers on the market to be specifically designed to utilize ozone. A simple "T" fitting is all that is required in the Self-Cleaning-Venturi air hose and the ozone will be recirculated within the protein skimmer thus utilizing the ozone very efficiently. No escaping ozone, no special carbon cap or filter required!

Adjustments? Easy........simply turn the gate valve handle. No fiddling with air adjustments and gate valves as on Becketts and no sliding "trombone" pipes as on needle-wheels and adjusting the air too. Isn't the whole process of skimming to get as much air into the skimmer, maximum air/water contact? If you have to mess with an air valve this means you are only restricting the air.

If you want a truly fantastic performer that you can set back and enjoy your aquarium (silent and micro-bubble free) then get the Lifereef. If on the other hand you want to have to baby-sit your skimmer and play with it, well, there are lots to choose from.
