| | Guest | Anyone have any starter coral frags? Hi-
I have my tank all set up and cycled now, it's been up and running for about 7 months now. I have all of my rock in and would now like to start slowly with a few corals. If anyone has any frags that are good for beginners, please let me know as I would be interested in purchasing them. My LFS has some, but all of their stock is not the best looking and I would rather not be doomed from the start. Please email me at shjnsn@yahoo.com if you have anything.
Thanks for all of your help,

| Re: Anyone have any starter coral frags? What is your tank description and how is it setup? Lighting, substrate, filtration, etc. How long has it been cycled?
These answers will assist us greatly in determining what corals would be suitable for your tank.

I have a custom 78 gal corner hex with a 4" lsb and 100# of lr. I have the aqua c remora hot protein skimmer, and 1 250w mh and 2 10k actinic pc lights. Is this set up o.k. for corals? The whole lighting thing is sooo confusing! lol My tank went thru it's big algae bloom at about 2 1/2 months so I would say it has been cycled for about 4 1/2 months now. I have 2 clowns as well as numerous snails and crabs that came with the rock. If I am forgetting something, or if anyone has any better suggestions for my setup, please let me know.
Thanks,

| Re: Anyone have any starter coral frags? How tall is your tank and where is your MH light situated - right center, left - front, middle, back? How many watts of PC lighting do you have.
Can you post a picture?

Sorry for the delay. My computer has been on the fritz...
My mh is in the middle. with a pc on each side of it one in front and one in back. My tank stands 33 high. I am looking for something easy to start off with. I do already have good growth in the tank as the nice purple and pink algae is fastly overtaking the rocks I don't have a digital camera right now so I can't post a photo. Sorry!
Thanks for all of your help,

I would encourage you to join as a member and then put your tank info in your signature so we can refer to it easily. Don't cost nothin!
Your single 250 watt MH will generally support all corals that are placed directly underneath it. Soft corals will do well on either side of the MH. Large Polyp Stoney (LPS) and soft corals will do well with your set-up. Some LPS are easier than others, i.e. the Bubble coral Matt suggested. Get an idea of what you like and we can comment on those specific corals. |

I think I would like to start with some sort of shroom or polyps. More of as a confidence builder for me...from what I've read those are nice beginner corals to start with! I have this fear of killing something and am a little bit cautious about adding something...I think it came from the "reef tanks are too difficult to keep" saying that I soo frequently hear. So with that in mind, what you suggest and where can I get some?
Thanks for all of your help! I have really enjoyed this site..everyone here is so helpful for beginners!
Thanks again,
